What is Percentage?
In mathematics, a percentage is a quantity(number) or ratio that can be represented as a division of 100. If someone finds the percent of a number, divide the amount by whole and multiply by 100. Hence, the percentage describes, per hundred. We can denote the percentage by the symbol “%”.
Here are some examples of percentages which is given below:
- 50% means 50 per 100
- 20% means 20 per 100
- 30% means 30 per 100

- 3/5 × 100 = 0.6 × 100 = 60 per cent
- 14/40 × 100 = 0.35 × 100 = 35%
How to find percent?
Let see how to find the percentage of a number, here are given below some examples:
Example 1: How to find the percentage of a number 20% of 60.
20% of 60 is 20/100 * 60 = 12
Example 2: Calculate 20% of 60.
70% of 90 is 70/100 * 90 =63
How to find the percentage of two numbers?
Example 3: Find the percentage of two numbers of 40 in 55.
40/55 × 100 = 72.73%.
Hence, to find the percentage of two numbers, divide one number with the other and multiply by 100.
