What is Pie Chart?
- A pie chart is a graphic description of data in the figure of a circular graph or pie where the elements of the pie show the relative sizes of data. Each of these divisions or slices denotes the proportionate piece of the entire.
- It is one of the most regularly applied graphs to design data.
- A pie chart using the properties of circles, angular, and spheres data to draw real-world reports.
- The other name of the pie chart is pie diagrams.
Pie Chart Formula
Behalf of these factors, there are given below two mainly formulas applied in pie charts:
- To find out the percentage of the given data, we apply the method:
- To change the data into degrees we apply the formula:
How to Create a Pie Chart?
A teacher surveys her class based on the favorite color of trainees :
Green | Orange | Red | Pink | Yellow |
10 | 5 | 5 | 10 | 10 |
The data above can be represented by a pie chart as follows and by applying the circle graph formula, i.e. the pie chart method given below. It gives the size of the piece easy to follow.
Level 1: First, Insert the data into the table.
Green | Orange | Red | Pink | Yellow |
10 | 5 | 5 | 10 | 10 |
Level 2: Combine all the values in the table to get the result.
I.e. Total trainees are 40 in this case.
Level 3: Following, divide all values by the total and multiply by 100 to obtain a percent:
Green | Orange | Red | Pink | Yellow |
(10/40) × 100
=25% |
(5/ 40) × 100
=12.5% |
(5/40) ×100
=12.5% |
(10/ 40) ×100
=25% |
(10/40)× 100
=25% |
Level 4: Next to understand how many degrees for all “pie slices” we require, we will take a full round of 360° and accompany the estimates below:
Green | Orange | Red | Pink | Yellow |
(10/ 40)× 360°
=90° |
(5 / 40) × 360°
=45° |
(5/40) × 360°
=45° |
(10/ 40)× 360°
=90° |
(10/ 40) × 360°
=90° |
Step 5: Picture a circle and apply the protractor to estimate the degree of each slice.
